Europeans much more likely to say Harris victory over Trump better for European security

1. Europeans much more likely to say Harris election victory would be better for European security than Trump win, according to new research from Savanta
2. Savanta’s new EMEA omnibus poll in six European countries including France, Germany & Poland suggests citizens at least twice as likely to say Harris over Trump best for security
3. All countries more likely than not to say that a Trump presidency would be ‘negative’, highest in Netherlands, with the lowest proportion in Poland
4. However, Poland particularly support sending arms to Ukraine, with Germany least supportive

11 October – Europeans are much more likely to say that a Kamala Harris election victory would be better for European security than a Donald Trump win, according to new research from Savanta.

Savanta’s new European, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) omnibus poll suggests that in six different European countries, citizens are at least twice as likely to say the current US Vice-President would be best for European security:

1. Spain (Harris 70%, Trump 19%)
2. Italy (Harris 54%, Trump 23%)
3. France (Harris 61%, Trump 16%)
4. Germany (Harris 64%, 17%)
5. Netherlands (Harris 70%, Trump 15%)
6. Poland (Harris 58%, Trump 26%)

All six countries are also more likely than not to say that a Trump presidency would be ‘negative’. The highest proportion of voters who say a Trump win would be negative is in the Netherlands (69%), France (65%) and Spain (64%), while the lowest is in Poland (48%), followed by Italy (50%).

However, Poland (60%) is particularly supportive of their government send arms and equipment to Ukraine, alongside the Netherlands (56%) and Spain (55%). Only one in three (36%) of Germans are supportive of their government sending arms to Ukraine, with Italy (39%) only marginally higher.

Oliver Warren, VP EMEA at Savanta says:

“Our new EMEA omnibus poll suggests that while Europeans are divided on a host of issues, including how to continue supporting Ukraine, they are broadly united in their view that a second Trump Presidency would be bad for their security.”

“There is a real challenge for European policymakers here as they attempt to coordinate backing for Ukraine, amid really different domestic pressures. Our research suggests that German leaders are much more likely to come under pressure for sending arms to Ukraine than those in Spain, for instance.”

“For Europe-wide businesses and organisations, Savanta’s omnibus polling can take a pulse of public sentiment in over 50 markets across Europe, Middle East and Africa.”
