Political poll, including voting intention, on the EU referendum for the Daily Mail.
Methods to reduce number of migrants
- Three-quarters of British adults (75%) say that they think that an Australian style points based system for people coming into the UK from outside the EU would be effective in reducing the number of migrants coming into the UK.
- Two-thirds of the British public say that they think restricting the welfare benefits available to migrants (66%) and ending free movement between EU countries (64%) would reduce the number of migrants entering the UK.
- Around half of Britons (53%) say they think that leaving the European Union would be effective in reducing the number of migrants.
EU Referendum
- The proportion of Britons saying they will definitely vote for the UK to stay in the EU is larger than the proportion saying they will definitely vote for the UK to leave (27% vs 19%). In addition to the ‘In’ side’s larger electoral base, there appears to be more people saying they will probably vote to stay in than out (19% vs 11%).
- There remains however a considerable number of the British public who are undecided; a quarter of the British public (23%) say they are undecided about which way they will vote in the referendum on UK membership of the European Union.
- Overall then, the British public are leaning more towards staying in the EU than getting out; around half (47%) say that they will most likely vote for the UK to stay in the EU compared to 30% who say that they will most likely vote to leave it.
Voting intention
- The Conservatives have a 4 point lead over Labour, down from 11 points in November, as Labour rise 4 points and the Conservatives fall 3 points.
