Citizens Advice Energy Billing Research

Research on public opinion and awareness of issues surrounding energy billing

  • The majority of Britons report having never received a back-bill (78%).
  • Of those who report receiving a back-bill, the mean average bill is £197, however a notable minority say their back-bill was more than £250 (15%).
  • Support for measures to limit the back-billing powers of suppliers is high: eight in ten support a cap on the amount suppliers can back-bill for (79%), and two thirds say suppliers should only be able to bill for less than 12 months (64%).

Methodology

ComRes interviewed 2,002 GB adults online between the 29th and 31st January 2016. Data were weighted to be representative of all GB adults aged 18+.
