Research on public opinion and awareness of issues surrounding energy billing
- The majority of Britons report having never received a back-bill (78%).
- Of those who report receiving a back-bill, the mean average bill is £197, however a notable minority say their back-bill was more than £250 (15%).
- Support for measures to limit the back-billing powers of suppliers is high: eight in ten support a cap on the amount suppliers can back-bill for (79%), and two thirds say suppliers should only be able to bill for less than 12 months (64%).
