Pride Month celebrates the accomplishments of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual community and highlights the ongoing pursuit of equal justice for LGBTQIA (LGBT+) individuals.

Although Savanta is prideful every month of every year, we didn’t want June to pass without sharing a positive story driven by our powerful data.

Unsurprisingly, people who know someone who is a part of the LGBT+ community are significantly more inclusive and inclined towards equal treatment than those that do not have a personal connection. In the ILGA minorities report, it states that 59% of people who know someone who identifies as LGBT+ strongly agreed that the LGBT+ community should have equal rights and protection by law. This drops to 28% amongst people who do not have a direct connection to the LGBTQIA community.

As more and more individuals are living their authentic lives, Savanta found that 33% of people are directly connected to a member of the LGBT+ community. Of that group of people, 81% consider themselves allies of the community.

We found people went one step further by not just being allies, but actionable allies! The majority (54%) actively educate themselves and learn about current LGBT+ news, and one-third (34%) attend events like pride parades, celebrations, and community events. In addition, 1 in 5 (20%) of allies donate to LGBTQIA supportive organizations.

Allies are also procuring from LGBTQIA organizations (14%), petitioning lawmakers on behalf of legislation that promotes LGBT+ rights (15%), and participating in protests across America (14%) for more equal treatment.

Pride month is a celebration, but it is also an important time for raising awareness around the injustices still being experienced by this minority community. There is lots of room for progress so join us in allyship and raise awareness to help the cause. Happy Pride!
