BRITONS DISMISSIVE OF CONSERVATIVE RECORD ON NHS & IMMIGRATION
As David Cameron gives his final speech to Conservative conference before the General Election, the British public are dismissive of his party’s record in government according to a new ComRes / ITV News poll.
A majority (57%) of the British public think the Conservatives’ management of the NHS has been bad for Britain, while two thirds (65%) think that the Party’s handling of immigration has been bad for Britain. A majority also think the changes to university tuition fees (55%), increasing spending on overseas aid (56%) have been bad for Britain.
The only Conservative policy seen by more of the British public as “good for Britain” than “bad for Britain” is the introduction of gay marriage.
While the economy is likely to be a key battleground at the next election, just one in five Britons (21%) expect their personal financial situation to improve over the next twelve months. 71% expect the cost of everyday items, such as good energy and travel, to get worse. Though three in ten (31%) believe the economy will improve.
Tom Mludzinski, Head of Political Polling, ComRes said: “After four years in government the Conservatives will want to emphasise their record and achievements. However, for the large part, voters believe the things David Cameron’s Party have done in power have been to the detriment of the country.”
Methodology Note: ComRes interviewed 2,024 British adults online between 26th and 28th September 2014. Data were weighted to be representative of all GB adults aged 18+. ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
