• Overwhelmingly, the British public is unaware that millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money is being sent to Argentina and is likely to oppose this flow of funds:

o 90% of people were not aware that millions of pounds of British taxpayers' money is currently being sent to Argentina through international financial institutions such as the World Bank. Only 10% were aware.

o 78% of people say that the British Government should use its influence within international institutions to stop this money going to Argentina. Just 6% support British taxpayers' money continuing to be given as foreign aid to Argentina via international financial institutions.

• Men are more likely than women to be aware of the international aid being sent to Argentina.

• Younger adults are more likely to say that they are aware of this flow, while older demographics are more likely to believe that the British Government using its influence within international institutions to stop this money going to Argentina. A quarter of 18-24 year olds do not know whether the British Government should work to stop this or not.

• People in lower social groups (C2 and DE) are more likely to oppose this flow and to believe that the British Government should use its influence to stop this, compared with higher social grades.

Methodology: ComRes surveyed 2,004 members of the public in GB online between 23rd and 24th February 2012.  Data were weighted to be representative demographically of all GB adults.  ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
