Survey of MPs on behalf of Heathrow about airport expansion
- Around two-thirds of MPs say they support a third runway at Heathrow (65%), three times the proportion who say they oppose Heathrow expansion (21%).
- When asked to rank each infrastructure project based on how much each will benefit the UK economy overall, MPs are most likely to rank Heathrow expansion as the most beneficial project listed (38% rank this first).
- Around two thirds of MPs rank a new Heathrow runway in their top three projects benefitting the UK economy (64%) – this is the only infrastructure project listed with a majority of MPs ranking it in their top three.
- The expansion of Heathrow is also most likely to be ranked first as the infrastructure project that is perceived to have the greatest long-term benefit to the UK economy (40%).
- This increases to two thirds who rank Heathrow in their top three (67%). Heathrow expansion is followed by High-Speed Two, with 54% of MPs ranking it in their top three.

Methodology
ComRes interviewed 150 MPs online and by paper self-completion questionnaire between 13th April and 14th June 2016. Data were weighted to reflect the exact composition of the House of Commons in terms of party representation and regional constituency distribution.
