BRITISH PUBLIC SHOWS PESSIMISM TOWARDS LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS
The latest Index poll results, conducted by ComRes and to be broadcast on ITV News at Ten tonight, reveal that that a large majority of the public do not feel positive about the London Olympics, with more than half of the population (54%) disagreeing that they are excited about the event to be held in the Capital this summer.
Nation-wide, 67% disagree that the London 2012 Olympics will benefit the lives of people in their area, with 55% stating that the event will only benefit London and the people living in London.

Do you agree or disagree with each of the following statements about the London 2012 Olympics? (%)
• 54% disagree that they are excited about the Olympics (56% in July 2011). However, 1 in 3 (32%) are likely to be excited, down from 35% in July 2011.
• 67% disagree that the London 2012 Olympics will benefit the lives of people in their area (71% in July 2011).
• 52% disagree that the ticketing system for the London 2012 Olympics was fair, a decrease of 8 percentage points from July 2011.

Although 62% of people are planning to watch at least some of the Olympics on TV, they are unlikely to foresee any benefits coming from the event.
People disagree that the Olympics will benefit the taxpayer more than it costs and that the whole country will see benefits from the Olympic Games (53% and 54% respectively).
However, they are more likely to agree than to disagree that the Olympics are great for the UK in such difficult economic times.
