Ligonier – State of Theology

A Survey of UK adults on behalf of Ligonier

  • More than half of UK adults disagree that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ (53%), almost two thirds disagree with the authority of the Bible (64%) and three quarters disagree that even the smallest sin deserves eternal damnation (76%)
  • Nine in ten evangelical Christians agree that people are justified by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone (90%)
  • However, three quarters (74%) agree that Jesus is the first and greatest being created by God – contrary to the historic Christian faith
  • Nearly three in ten evangelical Christians agree that “the Bible, like all sacred writings, contains helpful accounts of ancient myths but is not literally true” (28%)
