How are applicants feeling?

2022 has been a record-breaking year for students going through Clearing. But how has this impacted confidence and what role did Results Day play in university choice? We speak directly to A Level students to find out.

Almost 9 in 10 pre-applicants are committed to going to university in 2022, but 11% are still exploring their options.

Nerves ran high amongst A Level students this year, as the UK reverted back to exam based results rather than relying on teacher based results – the first time in two years, following the disruption of the pandemic.

But despite this, our Marcomms Success insight tracker revealed that confidence among applicants is high. According to our recent research, 87% of UCAS pre-applicants are committed to attending university in 2022.

Only 36.4% of A Level candidates were awarded A or A* – a drop from 44.8% in 2021, but higher than 25.4% in 2019. More than 53,510 UK based students entered Clearing the day after results were released making it the most competitive year for Clearing in a decade.

During this crucial period, it is incredibly important that university marcomms are optimised to promote their course vacancies and stand out to prospective students.
