Description

ComRes/ ITV News poll shows that the British public is concerned at quality of care for the elderly and how it will be funded

A ComRes/ ITV News poll has found that a large majority (81%) of the public are concerned at the quality of social care they will receive when they are older.

On the day that the Dilnot report recommended a £35,000 lifetime cap on social care costs, 79% of the public also think that there should be a cap on an individual’s contribution to their own social care.

74% of people have concerns about funding of long term care, with just 15% saying that they are confident that they have the means to fund it.

The question of funding remains an issue – 52% believe that the Government should cover all care costs for the elderly, 51% disagree that they should pay higher taxes to fund social care, while 56% say that they would be unwilling to sell their home to cover costs.

The findings of this poll will be broadcast on ITV News at Ten on Monday 4th July.

Methodology: ComRes interviewed 2003 GB adults online between 1st and 3rd July 2011.  Data were weighted to be demographically representative of all GB adults.  ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
