Belief at Work: Faith in the Workplace 2017 Survey

New ComRes Faith Research Centre report about workplace diversity and inclusion.

A new ComRes report about workplace diversity and inclusion suggests that British employers struggle to manage expressions of religion and belief in the workplace.

The Belief at Work study into faith in the workplace surveyed HR managers and adults in paid employment in Britain to test awareness of seven of the Equality Act 2010 categories of protected characteristics, and gathered insights from informal conversations with leaders in business, politics, academia, media and faith communities.

• 17% of workers say they have seen someone else experience at least one form of bullying, harassment or discrimination in the workplace.

• 16% of workers claim to have experienced discrimination in the workplace themselves

• 3% of British workers say they have personally been discriminated against in the workplace because of their religion or belief.

Methodology

ComRes interviewed 251 HR Managers, Managers and Senior HR Decision Makers at British companies with 50 or more employees online between 17 and 20 February. ComRes also interviewed 984 British Workers online between 17 and 19 February 2017.

 

Respondents for our survey of workers are drawn from a nationally representative sample of British adults aged 18+. Data for our survey of workers is weighted by age, gender and region to be representative of all British adults aged 18+. Respondents were filtered to exclude all respondents working at Director equivalent level or above, and to exclude retired people, unemployed, students, or people working in unpaid roles including family caring and volunteering

 

Respondents for our survey of HR Managers, Managers and Senior HR Decision Makers were filtered to include people at companies with 50 employees or more, and to remove respondents working for faith based organisations. Data were weighted to be representative of all UK businesses by number of employees.
