Road Transport Media HGV Training Survey

Survey of MPs on behalf of Road Transport Media

In order to meet the demand for 40,000 more HGV drivers in the UK, three in five MPs (60%) support the idea of allocating £100m of government funding over the next two years for employers to train UK residents as HGV drivers, rather than bringing in foreign drivers. Three in ten (29%) strongly support the idea.

Seven in ten Labour MPs (71%) support the prospective policy, compared to less than half of all Conservative MPs supporting, with the same proportion opposing the idea (both 47%).

In particular, around one in five (18%) Conservative MPs strongly oppose the idea, compared to just 5% of their Labour counterparts.
