A new ComRes poll for ITV News reveals some public support for Ed Miliband in his recent disputes with businesses, however, when it comes to the economy David Cameron and the Conservatives are more trusted the Labour leader and his Party.

When asked to choose, nearly twice as many Britons think Ed Miliband’s disagreements with business show that he is on the side of ordinary people (49%) as think the disagreements show he is a danger to the British economy (27%). Labour is also the party most trusted to stand up to big business by 30% to 22% who trust the Conservatives most. However, as many people think he is a danger to the British economy as think he is not (36% to 38%).

When it comes to the principle, Britons are split about whether it is more important that government has a good relationship with big business (40%) or whether it is more important government stands up to big business (also 40%). Though there is some suspicion about the motives for the attacks, with four in ten British adults (41%) saying they are being made because business leaders are personally worried that they would have to pay more tax if Ed Miliband was Prime Minister.

However, on the wider issue of economic credibility, Ed Miliband remains considerably behind both David Cameron (39%) and George Osborne (34%) on being trusted to see the country through the current economic situation (Miliband 25%). Labour also trails the Conservatives on which party is most trusted to promote economic growth (36% to 24%), although it comes out on top as the party most trusted to look after the financial situation of people’s own family (Labour 28%, Conservative 25%).
