BBC Radio 5 Live Loneliness Poll

Around three in ten British adults (28%) say that they feel lonely at least some of the time.

Although 85% of Britons say they expect to spend Christmas Day mostly with family, 7% say expect to spend it most on their own.

One in three Britons (33%) say that they feel left behind by new ways of communicating and 85% prefer speaking to friends and family face to face.

Two thirds (65%) of British adults think they should do more to help family, friends and neighbours who are lonely.

Methodology

ComRes interviewed 2,009 GB adults by telephone from 21st to 30th November 2014. Data were weighted to representative of all GB adults aged 18+. ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
