ComRes interviewed 2,065 British adults online between 20th and 22nd June 2014. Data were weighted to be representative of all GB adults aged 18+. ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.

Description

 When presented with a choice of six female MPs, two thirds (64%) of the British public said they don’t know which they’d most like to see become Prime Minister, indicating a low level of recognition for these MPs.

·         There is a clear age difference, with younger Britons being significantly more likely to say they don’t know: 77% of 18-24 year olds compared with 50% of those aged 65+

·         Women are more likely than men to say they don’t know which female MP they would like to see become Prime Minister: 69% of women, 59% of men. This finding is reflected

 

Theresa May, on 17%, is the MP most commonly chosen as who the public would like to see become Prime Minister. Support for Mrs May doubles among the oldest age group, 33% of those aged 65+ would like to see her become Prime Minister. Harriet Harman and Yvette Cooper follow Theresa May on 7% and 5% respectively.

Nadine Dorries: 3%

Stella Creasy: 3%

Liz Truss: 1%

Don’t know: 64%

 

Among those expressing an opinion (excluding those who said “don’t know”), half (47%) would most like to see Mrs May as Prime Minister, one in five (21%) chose Harriet Harman, 14% Yvette Cooper, 9% Nadine Dorries, 7% Stella Creasy and 2% Liz Truss.
