Description
Conservative voters are better able than Labour voters to name senior Labour frontbenchers, according to a ComRes survey for The Independent.
Out of eight leading Shadow Cabinet and senior MPs tested among voters, Conservative voters did better at naming all but one – Shadow Justice Secretary Sadiq Khan.
Overall, Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls, Labour leader Ed Miliband and his brother David Miliband scored best among voters as a whole, all scoring more than 60% recognition. Sadiq Khan, Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander all fared worse with between 30% and 40% recognition. There were two Shadow Cabinet whose recognition was so low that more people believed they were somebody else: notably more people thought Shadow Defence Secretary Jim Murphy was Shadow Work & Pensions Secretary Liam Byrne, and more thought that Shadow Energy & Climate Change Secretary Meg Hillier was Shadow Communities Secretary Caroline Flint.
