Half of Britons support a tax break for married couples

 

With the Conservative party set to unveil plans to offer a tax break for married couples, almost half (47%) of Britons are in favour of the policy to ‘encourage the institution of marriage’ despite more than a quarter (28%) opposing it. Those aged 65+ are more likely to support the policy with a little less than two thirds (62%) in favour, however only three in ten (29%) of those aged 18-24 are in favour. Other findings include:

As Chancellor George Osborne discusses his claims of economic success to the Conservative Party conference, the latest News Index poll conducted by ComRes for ITV News reveals that for the first time since polling began (November 2010), more of the British public say the UK economy has improved over the last three months, (35% record high), than has got worse (30% record low).

Four in ten (41%) believe UKIP has pushed the Conservative Party into being more Eurosceptic than they would have been, with only 16% disagreeing.

A quarter (26%) of Brits believe the Conservatives would have a better chance of winning the next General election without David Cameron as leader, however more than a third (36%) disagree.
