BBC Radio 5 Live Homophobia in sports

Poll of sports fans attitudes and experiences around homophobia in sport

Four in five sports fans* (82%) say they would be comfortable if their favourite sports club signed a new player who was gay. This is higher than the proportion of people saying they would be comfortable if a player was diagnosed with depression (66%).

Whilst homophobic abuse is the least likely form of abuse to be heard at a sports match, still around half of match attendees (47%) report hearing homophobic abuse at a sports match / meeting.
