Despite reports that the public is getting fed up of lockdown, the number of people following government guidance remains high

One in ten people (9%) say they know nothing about the government’s daily press conference.

While there have been fluctuations over the past couple of weeks, the majority (82%) of the UK public continue to mostly or entirely follow government advice on social distancing and staying at home. Just one in twenty (5%) say they are not, or mostly not, adhering to government guidelines. This indicates that, for the time being, the government’s plea to “be patient” is working overall despite restrictions being eased in other counties.

As we enter week six of the lockdown announced on 23rd March, half (50%) of us are very worried or the most worried ever with just over a third of people (35%) completely self-isolating.

Slightly more than half (53%) of people left the house yesterday. Of those, almost two in five (37%) went out to exercise, while 30% went to the supermarket. The number of people who say they saw empty shelves is at its lowest figure yet with 46% saying they did not come across unstocked grocery aisles.

In terms of other daily activities, not much has changed. Almost nine in ten (86%) consumed the news yesterday, while two in five (40%) made a video call and around a third (32%) said they bought something online. While one in ten people (9%) say they know nothing about the government’s daily press conference, 42% watched live on Saturday and a further 19% watched later.

As the Prime Minister returns to work today following his own recovery from coronavirus— and a period of gloomy wet weather is forecast across the country — we’ll see how the public’s reactions change over the coming weeks.
