 Actress Sunetra Sarker supports Sightsavers this World Sight Day

 

Most people (78 per cent) who are, or think they are, eligible to reclaim the cost of an eye test through their employers have not taken advantage of this offer in the last year.*

 

This World Sight Day, Thursday 10 October, Sightsavers' ambassador, actress Sunetra Sarker, is calling on the British public to take up their employers’ offers of free eye tests and consider donating the money they claim back to protect the sight of people in developing countries.

 

Sightsavers works in 30 developing countries where access to basic eye health care is considerably more limited than it is here in the UK. In many African countries, there is only one eye care professional per 100,000 people. Furthermore, the cost of a simple eye test is, for many of the world’s poorest people, more than they can afford. Many eye conditions, if left untreated, can lead to blindness that could have been avoided.
