A ComRes poll for ITV News/The Independent shows the Conservatives extending their lead to seven points as Liberal Democrats struggle to maintain their recent poll surge

The ComRes poll shows the Conservatives on 36%, Labour on 29%, Liberal Democrats on 26% and Others on 9%.

This compares with figures from ComRes yesterday that put the Conservatives on 33%, Liberal Democrats on 29%, Labour on 29% and Others on 9%.

This poll gives the Conservatives 282 seats - 44 short of an overall majority – Labour 259 seats and Liberal Democrats 77.

ComRes also asked about attitudes towards proportional representation and, ahead of tomorrow night’s debate, about which economic team are trusted most to deliver economic recovery:
