A survey of British adults on behalf of 10:10 on environmental issues.
- The nation broadly supports taking action to tackle climate change, with three in five Britons (60%) agreeing that all of society should take shared responsibility for repairing the environment.
- In spite of this, the British public is divided on the UK’s ability to combat climate change; over two in five Britons (44%) feel hopeful about our chances while roughly the same proportion (42%) do not.
- Fewer than a third have heard of the recent successes for climate action: 29% have heard that the UK had its first coal-free day since the industrial revolution, and 28% have heard of recent renewable electricity generation records.
- However success stories about battling climate change generate positivity about the UK’s chances of combating climate change. 54% of people feeling positive about the UK’s ability to tackle climate change upon hearing about the UK’s first coal-free day, with only 2% feeling negative. Similarly, 51% feel positive upon hearing about Caithness tidal wave park, only 2% feel negative.

Methodology
ComRes interviewed 2009 members of the British public online between the 23rd and 25th of June 2017. Data were weighted by age, gender, region and socio-economic grade to be representative of all GB adults aged 18+.
