Bright Blue – Biodiversity Research – July 2021

Polling amongst English adults on climate change and the natural environment.

  • At an overall level climate change (20%)and issues surrounding natural environments (14%) are relatively small concerns for people, compared to things like Covid-19 (53%) and the NHS / healthcare (41%)
  • Climate change is seen a more of a global, international issue than a domestic, UK issue. Nevertheless, climate change is still considered the second biggest threat to natural environments in the UK.
  • There is a correlation between the most valued natural environment and the ones perceived to be the best quality. On average 4 in 10 people would be willing to pay to visit natural environments if the money spend went to protecting and enhancing that environment.
  • Only 3 in 10 believe that the UK Government is doing enough to protect natural environments.
