COMRES/ ITV NEWS POLL: OVERWHELMING MAJORITY SEE PARALYMPIC ATHLETES AS INSPIRING ROLE MODELS FOR BRITAIN

Following ParalympicGB’s medal haul at ‘thrilling Thursday’, the latest Index poll conducted by ComRes and to be broadcast on ITV News reveals that an overwhelming majority of the British public (85%) think they are good role models for all of the people of Britain.

Looking at the legacy of the event, four in five (82%) also believe that the London 2012 Paralympic Games will help to make disabled people more visible in the British media.

84% of the population are proud of the British sports men and women who are competing in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Two thirds (65%) say that the Games will reduce negative stereotypes about disabled people in Britain and more than half (56%) say that the Games will reduce discrimination against disabled people in Britain, while 23% disagree.

Finally, while nearly half (46%) say that they find the Paralympic athletes more inspirational than Olympic athletes, 34% disagree.

Methodology: ComRes interviewed 2,057 adults online from 31st August to 2nd September.  Data were weighted to be demographically representative of all British adults aged 18+.  ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
