Institute of Business Ethics: Ethics at Work 2018 Survey of Employees (Europe)

European employees’ perceptions of ethics at work, including whether they feel able to speak up if there has been misconduct.

The majority of European employees say that honesty is frequently practiced in the workplace (78%), though just three in ten working adults say that honesty is always practiced in the workplace (29%).
Three in ten European employees have been aware of conduct by their employer or colleagues that they thought violated either the law or their organisation’s ethical standards in the last 12 months (30%).
Over half of European employees aware of legal or ethical misconduct in the last year raised their concerns (54%).
One in six European employees have felt pressure at work to compromise their organisation’s standards of ethical conduct (16%).
A quarter of European employees (23%) say that their organisations provide incentives to encourage them to meet ethical standards.

Methodology

ComRes interviewed 6,119 working adults across eight European countries between 5^th and 25^th February 2018. This included 754 working adults in France; 762 in Germany; 784 in Ireland; 768 in Italy; 775 in Portugal; 756 in Spain; 756 in Switzerland; and 764 in the UK. Data were weighted to make each country representative of the working population (age 18+) by age, gender and region.
