CIOB Construction and Productivity Survey

Survey of MPs on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), on perceptions of the construction sector in general, ways to increase productivity in the construction sector, and specific policies to increase construction productivity.

• When asked to rank areas for improvement that can influence productivity in the construction sector, MPs are most likely to say the people working in the sector should be a priority – seven in ten rank this in their top 3 (69%).
• MPs are most likely to rank the economy (55%), followed by policy certainty (51%) in their top three policy areas to enable the construction industry to raise overall UK productivity.
• A commitment to boost public sector investment in private-sector construction during a recession (50%), and the establishment of the NIC (49%) are the two policies that MPs are most likely to think would have a positive impact on the productivity of the UK construction sector.

Methodology

ComRes interviewed 150 MPs online and by postal self-completion paper questionnaire between 25^th February and 6^th April 2016. Data were weighted to be representative of the House of Commons by political party and by region. ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
