Tearfund has commissioned Savanta ComRes to conduct an opinion poll among Indian adults aged 18-64 to better understand their attitudes towards plastic in India.
Half (49%) of respondents report that single use plastic packaging is typically disposed of by, being collected by their municipality. While just seven percent of respondents say that they typically dispose of single use plastic packaging by burning it.
Approaching nine in ten (86%) respondents report that plastic pollution caused by bottles, packets and sachets in India is a concern.
Nine in ten (91%) respondents say they have become more concerned about plastic pollution over the last three years. Of these, nearly three quarters (73%) say they are much more concerned now than they were three years ago.
When thinking of plastic pollution by bottles, packets and sachets, the top three brands noticed by respondents in litter that they’ve seen are Bisleri (13%), Coke (10%), and Pepsi (8%).

Methodology
Savanta ComRes interviewed 2,000 Indian adults aged 18-64 years old online from the 10th to 18th December 2019. Quotas were applied for age and gender to make the survey representative of the Indian population by age and gender. Those with higher incomes, living in urban areas and with higher educational levels are overrepresented in this online survey. Savanta ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
