The RCGP English GP survey tracks GP views on many aspects of current practice including workload, workforce, and infrastructure. The survey also tracks opinions on the GP Forward View and the NHS Long Term Plan.
- 26% of GPs that do not only work in out of hours services say they have enough time to adequately assess patients, and 53% think that patient safety is being compromised because appointments are too short.
- 78% of GPs report working longer than contracted hours at least once or twice a week.
- 68% of GPs that do not only work in out of hours services and who have been involved in recruiting in the past year say it has been difficult to recruit GPs. 65% say it has been difficult to recruit a practice nurse.
- 31% of GPs say they are unlikely to be working in general practice in five years’ time, with 53% saying that they are likely to be.

Methodology
Savanta ComRes interviewed 1,578 English GPs online between 20th August and 6th October 2019. Data were weighted to be demographically representative of all English GPs. Savanta ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council.
