A survey of British adults on Islamophobia in British society

Nearly three in five British adults (58%) agree Islamophobia is a real problem in today’s society. However, one quarter of British adults (23%) disagree that Islamophobia is a real problem in today’s society
Nearly half of British adults (48%) agree prejudice against Islam makes it difficult to be a Muslim in this country
Nine in ten British adults (89%) agree that Muslims should always obey British laws, with nearly two thirds (63%) saying they strongly agree
Nearly half of British adults (47%) say Britain is becoming less tolerant of Muslims
Two thirds of British adults (67%) say a person can see themselves as both Muslim and British
More than one third of British adults (37%) say that the marginalisation of Islam in British public life is increasing in the media
Nearly half of British adults (48%) say there is more negative discrimination against Muslims than people of other faiths
Three in five British adults (61%) agree far-right political activists (e.g. English Defence League) are to blame for Islamophobia in the UK

Methodology

ComRes surveyed 2,021 British adults online between 15th and 16th October 2018. Data were weighted to be representative of all GB adults by age, gender and region. ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
