ITV News Cuts Index + Greece Poll

A ComRes/ ITV News poll on the Greek debt crisis has found a clear majority of the British public say the crisis ‘is nothing to do with Britain and we have no duty to intervene’.  Not only would UK intervention be opposed, but most (54%) also said that Greece should not receive any more EU money either.

The poll does however reveal a distinct sense of unease among many people about the potential threat to the UK: 68% say the crisis ‘threatens the UK because a further default could trigger further losses for European banks’.

Public attitudes to the Euro highlight the view that in light of the Greek crisis the UK was right to stay out of the Euro (75% agree) but people also believe that it would be in the UK’s interests for the Euro to survive as a currency by 46% to 20%.

Methodology: ComRes interviewed 2014 GB adults online between 24^th and 26^th June 2011.  Data were weighted to be demographically representative of all GB adults.  ComRes is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
