BBC Asian Network – Lifestyle Survey July 2018

An online survey of British Asians for BBC Asian Network

  • British Asians hold more socially conservative attitudes towards sex before marriage and same sex relationships compared to the population as a whole.
  • 34% of British Asians say they would be offended if a family member was having sex before marriage compared to 5% of the British population.
  • 36% of British Asians said same sex relationships are not acceptable compared to 15% of the British population
  • More than half of British Asian respondents (53%) said they’d toned down their Asian identity or changed their behaviour in order to fit in. This includes 12% who said they did this frequently
  • British Asians are more optimistic than the general population in terms of whether they see Britain as somewhere they can fulfill their aspirations and ambitions (72% British Asians compared to 64% British population)
