Leonard Cheshire Disability Employers Survey

A survey of UK line managers, on behalf of Leonard Cheshire Disability, around employing those with disabilities

  • The majority (67%) of employers in the UK say they don’t have any disabled employees, while a third say they do (32%)
  • Employers who report having disabled employees more often say they would be more likely to employ someone if they had a declared disability, than those who don’t (30% vs 11%)
  • According to employers, the cost and practicalities of making workplace adjustments are the most common barriers to employing disabled people (60% and 59% respectively) – with a quarter saying these are major barriers (25% and 23% respectively)

Methodology

ComRes interviewed 504 UK line managers responsible for or involved in the recruitment process online (‘employers’), from June 15th to June 29th 2017. Data were weighted to be nationally representative by UK region, sector type (public, private and non-sector), and by number of employees in the organisation.
