Description

ComRes / Newsnight Poll – One in nine women say they have faced sexual harassment at work

One in nine British women (11%) say that they have been on the receiving end of sexual harassment in the workplace, including one in eight (13%) women currently in work.

One in eight (12%) say that they have received sexual harassment on the street and one in five (20%) have been on the receiving end in social situations, such as in bars or at parties.

In total, a quarter of British women (26%) say that they have been on the receiving end of sexual harassment in at least one of these places.

When it comes to what women believe is the best response to sexual harassment, half (53%) believe an immediate response by the woman herself is best. 37% say the best response is an intervention by her employer or line manager, but only 6% say the same of addressing it at a legal level.

More than a third of women (35%) say that the way Nick Clegg and his party have handled the allegations of sexual harassment against Lord Rennard has made the Liberal Democrats less appealing to women. Nearly half (47%) say it has made no difference though.
